Did you know that California grows almost 100% of the total United States artichoke crop? And that nearly 80% of that is grown in Monterey County? If you’ve driven that beautiful stretch of Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Monterey, you surely have seen the signs for Castroville. AKA: Artichoke Center of the World.
Whether you enjoy your artichokes simply steamed, grilled on the BBQ or mixed into in a creamy dip with chips, get out there and buy some soon. Peak season is March through May so you won’t have any trouble finding them on your supermarket shelves.
