Bubbly Berry Crisp

A simple classic that is best with ripe seasonal fruit.

  • Yields: 10 servings


6 cups mixed berries

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1 pinch salt

1 cup sugar

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 cup flour

1/2 cup quick cooking rolled oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

6 tbsp unsalted butter, cut in small pieces


1Toss the berries with the nutmeg,1 cup sugar, salt and lemon juice. Pour out into a large baking dish.

2In a small bowl, stir together the flour, oats and brown sugar. Cut in the butter with a fork or your fingers until the mixture is fine crumbs.

3Scatter the topping over the berries and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until bubbly and browned.

You may also mix up the fruit: add in sliced (peeled) apples or peaches with the berries.
